Etymology

Express (lost). The 1833 OS map gives the name Express Wood to the farm at SJ 633234 which later maps call Wood Fm. Express is earlier Espris 1333 HAC, Espres 1588SRO 322 box 2 , Esprees 1594ib , Espree 1692SBL 5704 . This is a wood, magnus boscus in 1588, boscus domini in 1594. The name appears to be unique, and is unsolved. The document of 1333 is in French, and it is possible that a French etymology should be sought.
