Etymology

'Stone way', a name which occurs in several counties. There are two settlements, Lower and Upper, the latter being called Stanway Manor on modern maps. In 1227 Ch and 1255 RH reference is made to “the two settlements of Stanway”. Lower Stanway is Netherestanweye 1271-2Ass , and in 1301 SAC the two places are Overe Staneway and Nethere Stanewey . They are in Rushbury parish.
