Etymology

On TAMap the house called Old Fields is surrounded by a large group of fields with ~ Field names, three of them called Old Field . The others are listed in f.ns. infra . It seems likely that feld here means 'open field', with 'old' indicating that the area had been used for communal cultivation for a long time.
