Etymology
v. mere , which is here used for the feature called The Berth Pool, which lies within the northern boundary of the township. v. infra for the name Berth. The Index to Tithe Award map gives the farm-name as The Mere and prints Merehouse in capitals, presumably to indicate that the latter is the name of the township.
