Nobold
Early-attested site in the Parish of Baschurch
Etymology
A possible early reference occurs in a deed of 1377, SBL 3603 . This disposes of a holding “in villa et campis de Neubald” and a curtilage in the suburbs of Shrewsbury. The witnesses include John of Shotton ', William of Weston and Hugh of Atton . These places - Boreatton and Weston in Baschurch and Shotton in Hadnall - are close enough to support the placing of Neubald in Baschurch, but Nobold in Meole Brace, on the outskirts of Shrewsbury, is perhaps likelier.
