Etymology

ALLCOT (lost) is Alle (s ) cot 1203-4Ass (p), Allecot '1242 Fees, Al (l )ecot '1255 RH (p), Alecote 1269 Ch, 1271-2Ass (p), Allecote 1279 Cl, 1291-2Ass . 'Alla's cottages'. The settlement does not appear in records after the 13th cent., and its site has not been established. VCH VIII 6 suggests that it stood near Evenwood, where medieval pottery has been found.
