Etymology

'Ab(b)a's estate'; the second element is tūn, with late substitution of dūn 'hill'. The two spellings with -in - from ForProc do not constitute sufficient evidence for an alternative form with -ingtūn .

Abcott in Clungunford contains the same personal name.
