Etymology

Castle (6″). Cf. “on the south side of Cogges Church is ground called by the name of the Castle Yard, where frequently large and thick foundations have been dugg up. The vulgar people, that live here, think that in old time here was a Castle but I have not read of any such thing” early 18th ParColl.
