Historical Forms

  • Wardington' 1268 Ass
  • Wordinton' 1268 Ass
  • Ardyngtone 1285 Ass

Etymology

'*Wearda 's farm,' v. ingtun . Ekwall (DEPN) suggests, however, that there may have been an OE  word *wearde or *wearda corresponding to ON  varða , varði , 'beacon, cairn,' and this, not an unrecorded personal name, may be the first element of Weardan hyll BCS 663 and of Wardington.
