Etymology

Faws Grove (6″) is (on ) fæste graf 1059 (11th) St Denis , Fasshe grove 1551–2Survey , Fosgrove Coppice 1608–9Survey , v. grāf(a). The first element is OE  fæst , 'firm, stiff, dense,' possibly used to describe a thick wood, though it is not recorded in precisely that sense.
