Etymology

Gaunt Ho is so named 1645 Stapleton: cf. Gauntes 1544Bodl . A tablet in the church dated 1465 in memory of John Gaunt and his wife Joan is mentioned early 18th ParColl, with the comment “this John Gaunt and Joan his wife did first of all as I conceive build Gaunt House in this parish.”

Gaunthouse Mill (6″) is so namedc. 1840TA .
