'West tūn,' to which 'south' has been prefixed: cf. North Weston 129. In 1259, 1320, 1344, 1350, 1397 Os the name appears with the suffix -iuxta Cyltre , Ciltre , Chiltre , i.e. 'by the Chilterns.'
