Etymology

'Sibba 's ford.' Ferris from the family of Robert de Ferrers , second earl of Derby, who is mentioned in the charter (368 in S) by which William Fitz Roger of Sibford grants 9 hides of land, which he holds de comite de Ferers , to the Knights Templars. It is from these last tenants that the place is called Temple etc., v. Templars cxxi-cxxii.
