Etymology

'Beautiful hill,' OE  (æt þām ) sc(ī)enan dūne. Alternatively it is possible that the first element is a personal name *Scīena , a weak form of *Scīene (for which v. PN Ca 65), and that Shenlow Hill (infra ) means '*Scīena 's burial mound.'
