Etymology

Danes Bottom (6″). Cf. Debedene c. 1180 Jeffery, Deanhulle c. 1300 Jeffery, Dean quarr '1630 Jeffery, Deans quarry , Deans Bottom 1713 Jeffery. The original name is 'deep valley,' v. dēop , denu . Only the second element has survived.
