Etymology

'Hill where peas grow,' v. peose , hyll : in some of the forms the second element has been confused with (a)h. Nap from Robert Napparius , mentioned 1212 Fees. No reference has been found to a family named Venables , but this is obviously the name of a manor in Pishill. John of Stonor is said 1315 Ch to have free warren in Pushull and in Venables , the former place being presumably Pishill Nap .
