Heycroft Shaw

Early-attested site in the Parish of Nuffield

Etymology

Heycroft Shaw (6″). Cf. Haycroft late 13th Briers, Haycroft Underwood and Field c. 1840TA . v. croft : the first element is hēg . This is not near Haycroft Wood in the adjoining parish of Swyncombe, though the forms for that name (137) point to the same etymology. There is also a Heycroft Wood in Ipsden (57). It has been assumed that the three names are not connected, as the distance involved is about four miles.
