Etymology

First element OE  mixen, 'dunghill,' second element burh. Cf. Adel (WRY) from OE  adela , 'filth, filthy place.' Aregnes from the family of Milo de Harenis , who was given 2½ hides here c. 1170 by Bernard de St Walery: v. F. M. Stenton, The First Century of English Feudalism , Oxford 1932, p. 277.
