Etymology

The first element is probably OE  *Fēringas , 'the people of *Fēra ,' the same personal name being found in Feering Ess (PN Ess 389) and possibly in Ferring Sx (PN Sx 167–8). The second element is 'ford.' Shillingford (139) is probably composed of a personal name, -inga- and ford.
