Topples Lane, Topples Wood (both 6″) take name from Teppewelle 1215–23 Eynsh, Cappewelle 1270 Eynsh, Tamewelle 1285 Eynsh, Tappewelle 1285 Eynsh, 1316 FA, 1349 Cl, 1355 Ch. The wood is Tapples Wood 1821 O.S. '*Tæppa 's spring,' v. w(i)elle. For the personal name cf. PN Bk 231–2 and PN Wo 114.
