Etymology

Cottesmore Fm (6″). Cf. Cottesmoreslondes 1476 AD, Cottesmores 1608–9Survey : this is a manorial name. There is a brass in the church of the neighbouring parish of Brightwell Baldwin to the memory of Sir John Cottesmore, whose family doubtless derived their name either from Cotmore in Fringford (210) or the lost Cottesmore in Broadwell (308).
