Etymology

Hockmore Fm and Hockmore Cottages (6) take name from (into ) hocce mære 1004 (t. Ed 2) Frid, Hokemere c. 1200 (c. 1280) S, Hockemere 1220, c. 1250 (both c. 1280) S, 1324 Ch. As it is on the south boundary of Cowley the second element is probably (ge)mǣre. The first is uncertain: hocc , 'mallow,' is formally possible.
