Etymology
Green Benny (not on map). Cf. Cornbenneye , Greneben c. 1235 Os, Benneye c. 1241, 1267–84, 1280 Os, 1278–9 RH, 1285Ass , Benney 1316 FA, Benny 16th Os, Green Benny c. 1840TA . Probably 'Benna 's island,' v. (ī)eg. The personal name is found in Benham Berks. The prefixes Corn and Green are self-explanatory.
