Etymology

Hazelford Mill (6″) is so named c. 1840TA . It takes name from (on ) hæsl ford 956 (c. 1200) BCS 964; v. hæsel . The charter also mentions (on ) hesl burh , (of ) hæselbyrg , evidently the name of the camp marked on the 6″ map less than half a mile west, v. burh . Cf. 385.
