Stockley Copse takes name from Stochelie 1086 DB, Stocleye 1278–9 RH (p), Stockleye 1300 Wych, Stockelegh 1320 Cl (p). Cf. Upper and Nether Stockley 1608–9Survey . Either stocc-(a)h or stoc- (a)h; the former is perhaps more probable.
