Etymology

The second element is the word hop, 'valley,' the well-marked valley between the two settlements at Church and Market Warsop being the determining factor in the original settlement.The first is an OE  personal name Wǣr discussed under Waresley (PN BedsHu 274, PN Wo 246) and Wasen (PN Wa 210).
