Etymology

The first element is the ON  personal name Þorgeirr , found in the anglicised form Þurgar in KCD 789. Hence 'Þorgeirr 's farm,' v. tun . See also Introd. xviii. The fourth series of forms suggest that there has been confusion with the OScand  name Đorgarðr , though that name is not on record in England.
