Etymology

The first element is the ON  personal name Þórmóðr , ODan  Thormoth , with later confusion with Scandinavian names in -mundr . Hence 'Þormoðr 's farm,' v. tun . Cf. Thormanby (PN NRY 26). At one stage it was tending to develop in the same way as Thurmaston (Lei) which is Turmodestone (DB).
