Etymology

Sookholme lies in a river valley and there can be little doubt that we have here OE  sulh , 'furrow, channel,' noted previously in Souldrop (PN BedsHu 42), Sulgrave (PN Nth 36), Sulby (ib. 121). Hence 'marshy land in the valley,' v. holmr .
