Etymology

Ekwall (DEPN s. n .) is doubtless right in taking the second element as hyll and the first as the unrecorded personal name Hemede found in Hemsworth (Do) DBHemedesworde and the weak Hemeda of Henbury (Ch) DBHamedeberie . It would be related to Hemma in the same way as the recorded Luhhede is to Luhha .
