Historical Forms

  • Lyndebyhaghe t.Ed1 For
  • Lynby Haw t.Ed3 Map
  • Linby Hall gate 1663 WoodsRept

Etymology

Hall Fm is Lyndebyhaghe t. Ed 1For , Lynby Haw t. Ed 3Map , Linby Hall gate 1663 WoodsRept. For confusion between haga , 'enclosure' and heall , 'hall,' cf. Corby Haw and Weekley Hall (PN Nth 171, 173). As Linby is within Sherwood Forest the earlier form is clearly the correct one.
