Etymology

Carrgate Lane (6″) is via de Kergate 1270Blyth and was by the home of John del Ker (1327SR ). Cf. also Carre Bridge 1678 CoRec. gate is probably ON  gata, 'road,' hence 'road by the marsh,' v. kiarr infra 286.
