Apleyhead Fm is Apel (e )ia 1161, 13th Dugd iv, Appeleyhoued 1306 Ebor, Happelleye , Appulleye heuid 1335For . 'Apple-tree clearing,' v. leah . Head must refer to the wooded hill here (200 ft.). If the form houed is correct here it shows the influence of OScand  hǫfuð , 'head.'
