Early-attested site in the Parish of East Markham

Etymology

Cleveland Fm and Cleveland Hill (both 6″). Cf. Cleveland House 1775 C.The high ground here must have been known as the Cliff or Cleve . Cliff Gate (6″). Cf. Cliff Gate Side 1804 NJ. It is the gata or road from Markham Moor which leads up on to the top of the hill.
