Etymology

Eakring Brail Wood. Cf. Braylefeld 1549 Pat, Brail Wood 1690Thoresby . A common forest term for a park or wood stocked with deer, etc. See more fully Broyle (PN Sx 70), Brail (PN W 332). Found also in Brail Wong (TA ) in Bilsthorpe infra 297. It is a word of Romano-Celtic origin coming to us through French and has its parallel in Dutch  briel , bruul , broel , brögel .
