Candleby Lane

Early-attested site in the Parish of Cotgrave

Etymology

Candleby Lane (6″) is so named in 1585 (Thoresby ) and 1790 (EnclA ). It is not very likely that this is an old place-name in by, as all other place-names with this element in the county are either parishes or old manors. Possibly the lane was named from some settler from Candlesby (L).
