Etymology

'Cott 's healh or angle of land.' For the personal name cf. Cottesbrooke, Cottingham (PN Nth 67, 163), Cottesmore (R), Cotesmore DB, Cottesmor 1228 Cl, and Cottesbach (Lei), Cotesbece DB, Cottesbec 1254 Val. Cf. also cottes hyrst (BCS 1085) in the bounds of Sunbury (Mx).
