Etymology

Shackerdale Fm is Schakerdale c. 1230Thurgarton , Skakerdal t. Ed 1Welbeck , Schakerdalebrekkes 1331 AD iii. A compound of OE  sceacere , 'robber' and dæl or dalr , 'valley.' Cf. Shakerley (PN La 101), Sugarswell (PN Wa 285) and Sugar Hill (PN W 292). The -k - of the second form is due to Scandinavian influence, cf. Introd. xxiii.
