Etymology

Lockwell Hill is Lochagh 1226FF , Lokhag 13thRufford , Lockoe wells 1630EcclComm , Lockwell Hill c. 1825 O.S. A compound of OE  loc , 'bolt, bar, enclosure,' and haga , 'hedge, enclosure,' hence probably some form of enclosure with a device for keeping it closed. Cf. Locko (PN Db 158), earlier Lokhawe and Lokhaye .
