Historical Forms

  • Kellet 1660 Ct

Etymology

Kelwick Fm is probably to be associated with the family of Edward Kellet (1660Ct ), cf. Kellit Moor c. 1840TA , the present form of the name being due to association with the common place-name element wic . Confusion of final t and k are common as in the adjacent Tudwick and Tucket (PN Ess 308) and Crabbet for Crabwick (PN Sx 281), Collet for Colewyck (PN Bk 141).Kellet was replaced by Kellik and then rationalised to Kelwick .
