'The by of Hrani ,' a Scandinavian personal name which is found in OWSc  as Hrani and in ODan  as Rani .It appears in English 11th-century documents as (H )rani (g ) (NP 69). The same man must have given name to Ranel (o )und (13thBlyth ), a lost name in the parish, v. lundr .
