Garfit Ho (6″) is Gordweyt 13thFelley , Gorfitt 1637Map , Gorfid House c. 1825 O.S. This is probably a compound of gor , 'mud, marsh,' and the common thwaite . Hence, 'muddy thwaite ,' v. þveit infra 291.
