Etymology

Blenley Lodge is Blyndlye 1565Compton . We may compare Blindley Heath in Godstone (Sr), Blyndley Heathe 1559 Lambert's Godstone , Blyndlye heathe 1608 SrAS ix, 175. Possibly 'blind' in both these names has the sense of 'hidden' or 'concealed,' cf. Blindwell (PN D 354).
