Etymology

Cowthick Lodge is Midlecouthik , Coothike , Coethik 1580, 1584Map , wood called Co (e )thick 1625Deed , boscus voc. Cothicke 1642 Woods Rept, Coethick 1794EnclA . For thick v. Blackmore Thick infra 206. The first element may be the word 'cow' (OE  cu ), but the forms are too late for any certainty. Cf. Coe Fen or Cow Fen in Cambridge.
