Etymology

Perhaps 'Ordla 's hill,' v. berg , with connective ing . The multiplicity of variant forms makes the second element uncertain. It is clear that there has been confusion between bære, bearu , beorg and burh . Ordla would be a regular formation from the common pers. name element Ord -. Cf. the cognate OGer  Ortila (Förstemann, PN 1180).
