Etymology

There are pools by the manor house, and this may be 'ham(m) by the mere,' v. mere . For the form mar (e ), cf. the form marmedue supra 228 n, which must denote 'pool-meadow.' Marhamhirne must refer to a corner or angle of the parish, v. hyrne .
