Etymology

Calvey Wood (6″) is Caleweheye c. 1300For , Calwheye ib., Caluheye 1318 Pat, Calneheye (sic)1319 Inq aqd, Kaluhey 1336 Orig, Calouheye 1343 Cl, Calfhay 1813EnclA . This must be 'bare enclosure,' v. (ge)hæg, the first element being OE  calu , 'bare, bald,' with later folk-etymologising.
