Etymology

This, like Hinton in Woodford supra 37 is probably from OE  hīgnatūn , but we have no record of monastic possession. In 1166 it was held by Elias of William de Mandeville. For Hinton Grounds, a farm in the parish, v. Newbold Grounds supra 17.
