Etymology

'The farm of one Færþegn ,' v. tun . Cf. Johnston, PN England and Wales s. n . This is an Anglo-Scandinavian name (NP 39) corresponding to ON  Farþegn , ODan  Farthin . Among the various forms of it found in late OE  are Ferðeng , Fardan , Fardein .Ferðeng is found in the list of Peterborough sureties in BCS 1130.
