Etymology

This probably contains the same first element as Aynho infra 48 and Aeganstan (BCS 226). It would seem to be a pers. name *Ǣga . Professor Ekwall notes that this name is cognate with such OGer  names as Aigo , Eigio , Aigulf , Aigobercht , Aigofred given by Förstemann (PN 47–9, s.n. Aig ). The stem aig - is found in OE  in such words as āglāc , āglǣcan .
